The 2nd Brigade (Western) is composed of four Regiments, the 55th 'Triad' Regiment, the 69th 'Star' Regiment, the 70th 'Hornet's Nest' Regiment and the 83rd 'Mountain' Regiment.

COLONEL Porter Hicks
DEPUTY COMMANDER
LIEUTENANT COLONEL Robert A. Herring III
Navy ROTC at the University of Mississippi in 1969. He served 10 years of active duty,
including tours of duty as gunnery officer aboard the destroyer Robert L. Wilson
(DD-847) and Engineering Officer of Assault Craft Unit One. He served an additional 16
years in the Navy Reserve, including tours as commanding officer of three reserve
units, retiring in 1995 at the rank of Commander. LTC Herring has been a management
professor since 1985 and currently is on the faculty of the School of Business and
Economics at Winston-Salem State University.
OPERATIONS OFFICER
LIEUTENANT COLONEL Michael Hancock
COL. Hicks was enlisted in 1964 and commissioned in Military Intelligence (USAR) in 1970.
He served as a company commander for 4 different USAR companies, including the 339
ASA Co before becoming a Battalion staff officer for the 812 Trans Bn. He was assigned
to the 24 Mec Infantry Division, Ft Stewart, Ga.,as Asst G-2, (MOB-DES). He served as
Chief, Investigative Division, Camp Blanding, FL and Deputy Chief, Investigative Division,
24 Mec Inf Div, Ft. Stewart, (MOB-DES).. He holds CERT and Ham skill certifications and is
an American Red Cross Health & Safety Instructor. COL Hicks is a retired Lieutenant
Colonel from the US Army.



Ltc Hancock is a 30 plus year retired NC Law Enforcement Officer who holds an Advanced Law
Enforcement Certificate. A nationally certificated Drug and Gang Interdiction Officer. LTC Hancock
was commissioned into the Texas State Guard as 2LT Military Police Corps by Texas Governor
Mark White. In 1989 Capt Hancock transferred in grade to the NC State Defense Militia. Ltc
Hancock has served in S-2 Armor Brigade and S-2 Mech Infantry and Armor Battalions as an
enlisted man. And as a officer as S-3 in Battalion/Brigade, and as a Executive Officer and
Commanding Officer of an Military Police Company and a Battalion Excutive Officer and
Commander. And as DCOSOPNS as Assistant G-3 Division Operations Officer.
